With water tables at an all time low, it is important that the water we use gets to where it is most needed: the roots of the plants. Research has shown that shorter but more frequent watering actually saves water as soil that retains a small amount of moisture uptakes water more efficiently than soil that is bone dry. Drip irrigation offers an effective way to deliver water slowly but surely to where it is needed most, but many are intimidated but the number of parts and options or worry about a yard that is filled with black plastic. In this class we get an introduction to the main components of a drip irrigation system and will design and assemble a small system start to finish. We will learn about automated timers, quick connect systems, when to use inline drip, emitters or micro-sprayers. We’ll also hear about tips for designing the system for the least visual impact.
